bullet A Brief History

bulletMyths About joining the Fraternity:

1. "You must have a lot of money".  It has been shown time and time again that neither social nor economic status has anything to with the Fraternity.  At Frontier we assess a fee to join $125.00, payable in $45.00, $40.00, and $40.00 installments.  After the first full year you are charged dues for membership which at Frontier are $52.00/yr.  We want good, decent, up standing members whatever their lot in life may be.

2. "You must be related to a Mason to join".  Not so! While many of us have family members that are Masons, and may even claim a long Masonic heritage, it is not necessary to show any relationship to a Mason to join.  This myth was started by a misunderstanding of affiliated bodies such as the Eastern Star or the youth group for young girls, Jobs Daughters. These organizations require that you must be related to a Mason to join.

3. "There is hazing in the initiation".  Absolutely not!  We are not even allowed to contemplate the idea of hazing any petitioner for the degrees of Masonry, under strict observance of our  Masonic law.  The degree ceremony pointed out in our ritual for initiation ties directly to the oldest initiation processes known, which were usually to bring a youth into manhood.  Being a man has always meant being personally responsible to one's self and family, upholding the laws of the land, and being bound to the duties of uprightness.  It is for this reason that Masonry does not allow hazing; degrading a man does not reinforce the principles we espouse.

How is Masonry Changing?

Here's an example.  Harvard Lodge is located at Harvard University in Massachusetts.  In the last five years, their membership has gone from 78 to over 250 members, including 160 new members last year!  Average age in the lodge is 38.  They have so many lodge brothers, that they have two or three sets of officers for all but the Worshipful Master and Warden positions.  Masonry is exciting and relevant in the lives of these college undergraduate and graduate students.

Do they know something you don't know?
